IGA exist from 1996 as BiH Ministry Assembly's agency for implementation of the World Bank's project in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The goal of Leveraged Insurance Facility for Trade project (LIFT) was re-establishment of production activities in private, industrial sector by providing non-commercial risk insurance to foreign companies and financial institutions, which had trade exposures in BiH. From 1997, when Project Contract was signed between World Bank and BiH Government, IGA had issued more than EUR 25.000.000,00 worth of guarantees.

After implementation of LIFT project, IGA had started implementing new World Bank's project - support to export companies, which started in 1999, upon signing of Participation Agreements with local banks. The goal of the project was providing working capital loans to BiH exporters. Coupled with this project, Trade Credit Insurance project was developed, as well as factoring project. As of 1998, IGA became full time member of Prague Club, the society of newly developed Export Credit Agencies, mainly from countries of Central and East Europe, which is governed by the Bern Union.

Through successful implementation of aforementioned projects, IGA has emphasized a need for existence of state governed Export Credit Agency in Bosnia and Herzegovina. In 2004, Parliament of BiH has brought a Law on Export Credit Agency, thus creating an institutional frame for continuance of IGA's work.

As of June 04, 2007 IGA continues its existence as state institution of BiH, with cora capital of 26 million EUR. In its future efforts, we will concentrate on development of export and domestic credit insurance products for BiH exporters.

IGA has gained significant experience in handling international market transactions, developed companies' database as ability to obtain credit information; therefore IGA can offer consulting services in domains of investments and international trade and credit bureau services to BiH and foreign companies.
